When death approached Mu’aadh..

When death approached the companion Mu’adh ibn Jabal (رضي الله عنه), he said:

“Welcome death welcome!

A passing visitor, a beloved who has come at a time of need. Oh Allah I was afraid from you but today I hope in You. Oh Allah you know I never loved this world or longed to live long in it to help the rivers flow or plant trees.

Rather I longed to fast in the intense heat, bear the difficult hours and to compete with the scholars in circles of remembrance.”
