The illustrious scholar ibn al-Qayyim رحمة الله عليه wrote:
التاسع: مجالسة المحبين الصادقين، والتقاط أطايب ثمرات كلامهم كما ينتقى أطايب الثمر، ولا تتكلَّم إلا إذا ترجَّحتْ مصلحة الكلام، وعلمتَ أنَّ فيه مزيدًا لحالك ومنفعةً لغيرك.
Collect the best fruits of their speech just as one would pick only the best fruits. Remain silent except when you are certain there is more benefit in your speech and when you know it will be better your condition and benefit others.
